The area where we are is perfect for exploring the points of interest in the region. Trieste is just a 40-minute drive away, while Venice is a 1 hour and 30-minute drive or 1 hour and 15-minute train ride from San Giorgio di Nogaro. Tolmezzo, which gives access to the mountains, is only a 50-minute drive away, while Cividale, the ancient Lombard capital, is a 45-minute drive away. Ronchi dei Legionari Airport is just a 40-minute drive away. The area is perfect for both cultural and naturalistic tours. Aquileia, the third city of the Roman Empire, is only a 30-minute drive away and is rich in Roman and Paleochristian monuments. The beaches of Grado or Lignano are just a 50-minute drive away, and in Venzone, also a 50-minute drive away, you can admire the mummies preserved in the local museum.
The area is particularly suitable for birdwatching, thanks to the lagoons of Grado and Marano, which are the most northern in the entire Mediterranean and a favorite place for birds to rest and pass during autumn and spring. There are also excellent equipped birdwatching parks. On the Trieste coast, you can practice seawatching in the Miramare marine reserve.
For cycling enthusiasts, the area is perfect with its cycle paths and traffic-free country roads in still pristine natural places.
Don't miss the Friulian cuisine, rooted in peasant traditions, and the world-famous wines, especially the whites.
A short distance from Porpetto, you can go canoeing on the Stella River, in an intact and suggestive environment. The river descent is almost at a tourist level, and we can provide all the canoeing equipment for one person, including transportation of the canoe to the boarding point and pick-up from the landing point.
Just a 30-minute drive away is the Karst, a unique and special environment with a recent and painful history. Here, most of the battles of the First World War between the Austrian and Italian armies took place in accessible and visitable locations through historical routes.
For archaeology enthusiasts, the castellieri, almost an Italian rarity from the Middle Bronze Age, are very interesting, both in the Karst area and in the Friulian plain. In addition, visiting the Neolithic village of Sammardenchia is an experience not to be missed.
Even speleology enthusiasts will find many opportunities in our region, which has over seven thousand caves, large and small, many of which can be explored. In Trieste, you will find the largest visitable cave in the world, the Grotta Gigante.
We also suggest the possibility of following some religious itineraries, such as visiting the Marian Sanctuaries in our region, which are particularly interesting because they are located on the border with Protestant influence areas. In particular, visiting the Sanctuaries of Barbana, Castelmonte, and Lussari allows you to explore three very different areas: the sea, the hills, and the high mountains.
Furthermore, we can organize visits to very romantic and suggestive gardens, both public and private, during the most suitable periods.
Finally, we propose a unique and curious tour that will allow you to discover some cemeteries in the region with special characteristics, such as historical, cultural, architectural, etc.
