The Lauro House is a marvelous Friulian residence located in Porpetto, in the province of Udine. Belonging to the Zaina family, this charming house is an authentic "treasure of the past" that has preserved its original charm over the years. The property offers four comfortable double rooms, including the Baba room with a comfortable double bed, the Grandma room with two single beds, the Cameron with the same single beds, and Dario's room with a cozy double bed. Three of these rooms have their own private bathroom. Additionally, a crib is available for our youngest guests. The Grandma room and the Cameron room are connected and perfect for accommodating families or close friends.

Inside the property, our guests can enjoy a vast garden and a covered parking area. Upon request, we are able to organize guided tours and personalized itineraries. It is also possible to rent regular bicycles to explore the surrounding area. Our library provides guests with over 800 historical, artistic, and naturalistic publications, primarily focused on the wonderful local region, but not limited to it.

Area

The region we are in is an ideal place to explore the attractions in the area. Trieste is only a 40-minute drive away, while Venice is a 1 hour and 30-minute drive or a 1 hour and 15-minute train ride from San Giorgio di Nogaro. Tolmezzo, which provides access to the mountains, is just a 50-minute drive away, and Cividale, the ancient Lombard capital, is a 45-minute drive away. Ronchi dei Legionari Airport is only a 40-minute drive away. This area is perfect for both cultural and nature tours. Aquileia, the third city of the Roman Empire, is just a 30-minute drive away and is famous for its Roman and Paleochristian monuments. The beaches of Grado or Lignano can be reached in just 50 minutes by car, and in Venzone, also a 50-minute drive away, you can visit the museum with preserved mummies.

The area is particularly well-suited for birdwatching, as it is home to the northernmost lagoons in the entire Mediterranean, Grado and Marano, which are popular resting places for birds during autumn and spring. There are also excellent birdwatching parks. On the coast of Trieste, you can engage in seawatching in the Miramare marine reserve.

For cycling enthusiasts, the area offers perfect cycling paths and traffic-free country roads in pristine natural surroundings.

Don't miss the opportunity to try Friulian cuisine, deeply rooted in peasant traditions, and the world-renowned wines, especially the white ones.

Near Porpetto, you can go canoeing on the Stella River, in a preserved and picturesque environment. The river descent is suitable for tourists, and we can provide all the necessary canoeing equipment for one person, including transportation to the starting point and pick-up from the landing point.

Just a 30-minute drive away is the Karst, a unique and distinctive environment with a recent and significant historical background. Many of the battles between the Austrian and Italian armies during the First World War took place here, and you can explore accessible and visitable locations through historical routes.

For archaeology enthusiasts, the castellieri, which are almost a rarity in Italy from the Middle Bronze Age, are highly interesting both in the Karst area and in the Friulian plain. Additionally, visiting the Neolithic village of Sammardenchia is an unmissable experience.

Even cave exploration enthusiasts will find numerous opportunities in our region, which is home to over seven thousand caves, both large and small, many of which are explorable. In Trieste, you will find the largest visitable cave in the world, the Grotta Gigante.

We also recommend the possibility of following religious itineraries, such as visiting the Marian Sanctuaries in our region, which are particularly interesting due to their location on the border with areas influenced by Protestantism. Specifically, visiting the Sanctuaries of Barbana, Castelmonte, and Lussari allows you to explore three very different areas: the sea, the hills, and the high mountains.

Furthermore, we can arrange visits to romantic and charming gardens, both public and private, during the most suitable seasons.

Lastly, we propose a unique and intriguing tour that will allow you to discover some cemeteries in the region with special characteristics, such as historical, cultural, architectural, etc.
