Bomarzo is renowned worldwide for the "Park of Monsters," where Prince Vicino Orsini had the local peperino stones sculpted between 1552 and 1580, creating statues in honor of his wife. The princely palace, which was previously owned and inhabited by the Orsini family and now serves as the municipal headquarters, is also a must-visit. The area is further enhanced by the famous Monte Casoli Reserve, abundant with flora.
The entire region is an Etruscan settlement that has remained remarkably unchanged over time, offering tranquility and relaxation, as well as numerous nearby excursion possibilities.
In close proximity is Bagnaia with the beautiful Villa Lante, a 16th-century masterpiece surrounded by a magnificent "Italian Garden." Various fountains within the garden create water displays, forming spectacular geometric patterns amidst evergreen hedges and peperino statues.
A short distance away is Viterbo, which is not only rich in its medieval neighborhood of San Pellegrino and the Papal Palace but also famous for the historic transport of the Santa Rosa Machine, attracting thousands of tourists on September 3rd every year.
Soriano del Cimino, in the vicinity, offers the opportunity for splendid walks and picnics in its picturesque beech forest (Faggeta).
Other not-to-be-missed places within a thirty-kilometer radius include Orvieto with its magnificent Duomo, Terni with the Marmore Waterfall, Civita di Bagnoregio ("the dying town"), Caprarola with the Farnese Palace, Orte with its sulfurous thermal baths, and let's not forget the Alviano Nature Reserve.
