Locanda de Banchieri

Bed & Breakfast in Fosdinovo in the hills

Our property

Nestled among the green hills of Lunigiana, near the medieval village of Fosdinovo, the Locanda de Banchieri welcomes its guests in a charming Tuscan farmhouse dating back to the 17th century. This ancient residence, once owned by a noble family, has been carefully restored by Chef Patron Giacomo Devoto, who has transformed it into a place where elegance, nature, and hospitality coexist harmoniously. The property features four rooms, each dedicated to historic Tuscan noble families — Ubaldini, Castruccio, De Medici, and Malaspina — designed to provide an intimate and refined stay. The interiors are characterized by a style that blends the charm of Tuscan tradition with more contemporary details: period furniture, reclaimed elements, and modern collectibles create warm and sophisticated atmospheres. Large windows allow natural light to fill the spaces and provide stunning views of the sea and the surrounding hills. Guests can unwind in the outdoor areas surrounded by greenery or enjoy the panoramic swimming pool, perfect for moments of tranquility amidst nature and silence. The Locanda also offers free Wi-Fi throughout the premises, on-site private parking, and is pet-friendly. In this authentic and enchanting setting, the stay becomes an experience of peace and well-being, beautifully integrated with the landscape of Lunigiana.

Restaurant

Inside the Locanda de Banchieri, there is a Michelin-starred restaurant where the cuisine serves as a refined expression of the local area. Chef Patron Giacomo Devoto presents a culinary vision deeply rooted in Lunigiana’s tradition, reinterpreting it with contemporary sensitivity and a strong focus on high-quality ingredients. The culinary philosophy is derived from a profound connection with the land surrounding the inn. Many of the ingredients used come from the property's gardens and olive groves, which span several hectares and allow for the use of fresh, seasonal products. Local recipes are thus reimagined with skill and creativity, resulting in balanced, elegant dishes rich in personality. Each course tells a story of dialogue between memory and innovation, where the authentic flavors of Lunigiana meet modern, sophisticated interpretations. The dining experience is complemented by a carefully curated wine list that features Italian and international labels designed to enhance the tasting journey. The elegant environment and intimate atmosphere make the restaurant an ideal setting for a complete culinary experience, where every detail—from the presentation of the dishes to the wine pairings—contributes to creating a sensory journey that highlights the aromas and flavors of this region.

Area hills

The Banchieri Inn is located in Lunigiana, a captivating region situated between Tuscany and Liguria, where the landscape features gentle hills, medieval villages, and views that open up towards the sea. Fosdinovo, a small town rich in history, overlooks the Magra valley and is one of the most picturesque viewpoints in the area, offering vistas that stretch from the Apuan Alps to the Gulf of La Spezia. This region is recognized for its remarkable historical and architectural heritage. The numerous castles scattered throughout the area highlight the strategic significance that Lunigiana has held over the centuries. Among these, the Malaspina Castle in Fosdinovo stands out as one of the most impressive and well-preserved in the region, symbolizing the long history of the feudal families that ruled over these lands. Not far away are the famous marble quarries of Carrara, where for over two thousand years the renowned white marble has been extracted, sought after by world-famous artists and architects. The landscape surrounding the quarries is unique and breathtaking, with mountains shaped by extraction activities creating stunning scenes. The location of the Inn also allows for easy access to some of the most renowned spots along the Ligurian coast. The Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its colorful villages perched above the sea and scenic trails winding through vineyards and cliffs, is one of the most beloved destinations in the Mediterranean.
