Agriturismo La Traversina

Country House in Stazzano in the hills

La Traversina is an 18th-century rural residence surrounded by chestnut and oak forests, offering an intimate and well-kept retreat far from the hustle and bustle. The garden, filled with scents and colors, guides guests through a landscape of roses, honeysuckles, lavenders, irises, and hostas, with views that change with the seasons and summer nights illuminated by the glow of fireflies. The tranquility is complete, broken only by the sounds of nature and the reflections of the pool overlooking the green hills. The interior spaces retain the character of the manor house: antique furniture, family heirlooms, books, and travel mementos create elegantly simple environments designed for those seeking a relaxing stay. The rooms in the main house and the three apartments converted from old barns and stables maintain an authentic spirit, each offering a terrace or a private garden with views extending to the Alps. The decision not to accommodate families with children stems from the desire to maintain the serenity that defines this place. The garden is one of the most emblematic features: hundreds of varieties of roses, irises, and hostas coexist with numerous rare species. The small nursery allows guests to purchase plants grown directly on the agriturismo, while throughout the year, gardening and cooking courses are organized for those who wish to delve deeper into these passions. Rosanna and Domenico welcome guests like old friends, alongside their large family of animals. The atmosphere of togetherness is also reflected in the meals served on the veranda with views of the woods: hearty breakfasts and fixed-menu dinners, available on select evenings, are prepared with ingredients from the farm or local producers, inspired by Ligurian and Piedmontese traditions. La Traversina is located in the hills near Stazzano, not far from Novi Ligure and Gavi, regions known for their wines, chocolate, and exquisite cuisine. The Borbera, Curone, Grue, and Ossona valleys offer routes through nature, villages, and landscapes that mark the borders of four provinces. The agriturismo provides free parking and a shuttle service to Arquata Scrivia station, making travel without a car convenient. Whether for a weekend or a longer holiday, La Traversina is a place to slow down, savor every detail, and be welcomed into a small corner of paradise that has been cherished by the same family for nearly three centuries.

Our breakfast

Breakfast is served on the veranda or in the room overlooking the forest, with the Alps in the background. The pace is leisurely, and the menu changes according to the seasons and the availability of fresh ingredients, many of which come from the garden or local producers. Homemade cakes, artisanal jams, fresh bread, yogurt, garden fruit, and local honey create a simple yet thoughtful start to the day. The ambiance resembles that of a genuine country house: scents, tranquility, and natural light accompany a breakfast that encourages guests to take their time and savor the landscape.

Restaurant

The dining room overlooks the forest and welcomes guests into an intimate setting, where a single communal table fosters a cozy and informal atmosphere. Dinner is offered on select evenings of the week with a fixed menu inspired by Ligurian and Piedmontese traditions, made with garden produce, aromatic herbs from the garden, and ingredients sourced from local small-scale farmers. During the pleasant seasons, dishes are also served in the park, surrounded by the scent of roses and the tranquility of the countryside. Reservations are required, as well as for tastings designed for those wishing to explore local flavors and recipes. The cost for dinner is 35 euros per person, and the service is exclusively reserved for guests of the agriturismo.

You will be hosted by Rosanna

Rosanna and Domenico warmly welcome their guests with the ease of those who have always been in harmony with this place. Rosanna is the creative spirit of the home: she grows roses, experiments in the kitchen, and pays attention to every detail of hospitality, turning her personal passions into shared experiences. Domenico discreetly and kindly supports the day-to-day management, helping to maintain the familial atmosphere that defines the property. Their home is also shared with a large family of animals: the big dog Bigia and the cats Leo Stracchino and La Pina fill the days and make the environment even more inviting. Here, guests do not feel like clients but rather friends invited to discover a cherished place lovingly preserved for generations.

Area hills

The hills surrounding Stazzano create a harmonious landscape filled with woods, vineyards, and small villages that preserve ancient traditions. The Traversina is situated in an area abundant with culinary delights: Novi Ligure, known for its historic chocolate production, is just a short distance away, as is Gavi, the home of the DOCG wines that have made this region famous. From here, the Borbera, Curone, Grue, and Ossona valleys can be easily accessed, marking the natural boundary between the provinces of Pavia, Piacenza, Alessandria, and Genoa. These valleys are perfect for hiking, scenic walks, and exploring quaint towns and traditional eateries. The Serravalle Designer Outlet is about a fifteen-minute drive away, while the Arquata Scrivia train station provides convenient transportation options without needing a car. This area combines tranquility, nature, and a culinary heritage that reflects the blend of Liguria and Piedmont.
