The La Sabbiona Estate, already present in the 1600s, was owned by Notary Donelli, Adviser of the Municipality of Faenza and notary of the small town of Oriolo dei Fichi, known as Aureolum, a charming village perched near the hexagonal medieval tower with double struts, unique in Italy. In 1655, the property passed to Ottaviano Salvioni, from whom it took the name La Salviona. Over time, the name transformed into "La Sabbiona". In the 1970s, the Altini family, who had always had a rich farming tradition, decided to move from the plain to purchase a hillside estate with a privileged position offering enchanting panoramic views. On one side, you can admire the Tower of Oriolo, while on the other side, you can see Faenza and the plain of Ravenna, with its thousand nighttime lights. On clear days, the skyscrapers of Cesenatico and Milano Marittima appear on the horizon like small toothpicks. Love and passion for the land drove the Altini family, who were always farmers, to undertake new activities related to the territory in order to offer a better future for their children. In 1993, Serena, Sebastiano, and their son Mauro started the agritourism business, with the support of their grandfather Quinto's experience. In 1999, the restoration work on an ancient rural dwelling dating back to the late 1500s was completed. After careful restoration of the buildings, La Sabbiona offers accommodation in rooms with en-suite bathrooms, furnished with antique furniture, and in finely furnished country-style apartments, all in harmony with the past and the comforts of the present. The property has been improved over the years, also following the personal growth needs of the Altini family, who have acquired new essential knowledge such as computer use and a deeper knowledge of a foreign language. The eldest son, Mauro, represents the new energy and drive to continue the agritourism and agricultural business, with particular attention to the quality and authenticity of agricultural products, especially wine. Then there is Marco, the youngest, who helps the family with his computer skills when needed. In the cellar, the grapes grown on the estate are vinified, producing high-quality D.O.C. and I.G.T. wines, typical of Romagna. Special attention is paid to the preservation of ancient indigenous vine varieties, such as Centesimino. Visitors can participate in tastings and group visits, especially for those who appreciate the culture of good drinking combined with typical dishes. Passion drives the Altini family to enhance ancient crops, such as spelt, which is used in the kitchen to make Romagna-style piadinas and soups, as well as Romagna P.G.I. shallots, used to enrich local dishes. The preservation of ancient recipes and flavors guides the cuisine and tastings at La Sabbiona. Cooking courses are also available because traditions should not be lost.
