Our property, The Emperor's Farm, was the residence of the farmers who lived in Portoferraio around 1814, in the service of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte who, against his will, was landed on Elba. Here, the cultivation of vines and olive trees mainly produced table oil and wine. Among these, the modest Aleatico and Moscato were also produced, two typical sweet wines of our island. It is said that Napoleon, a great lover of books on agriculture, enjoyed observing and rewarding the farmers during his morning horse rides, for their hard work and skill in their jobs. The Emperor himself said: "I chose the Island of Elba considering the kindness of its inhabitants and the pleasantness of the climate. They will always be the object of my keen interest." Our two rooms have been designed to keep the history of the house and the people who lived there in the past alive, with a modern touch. We wanted to give them the names of the women who were part of Emperor Napoleon's life and who lived on Elba during his exile.
