In the heart of the city, there is a historic residence that welcomes a completely renovated B&B: charming rooms equipped with air conditioning, television, and free internet connection. The furnishings and vintage items add a touch of elegance.
My family has been living in this house for five generations, which was built in 1870 by my great-grandfather Domenico De Angelis. In the past, the house accommodated Domenico's family, and probably his parents as well. It had a side entrance for carriages and horses, leading to a shop selling wine produced on-site. Some rooms were used as warehouses, such as the one for wheat and flour, and the one for fruit. There were also rooms for cheese production and processing of meats from the countryside. Over the years, due to wars and the passing of generations, the house has undergone many transformations but has preserved some original features, such as the high vaulted ceilings, the wooden and wrought-iron door, the staircase railing, the interior doors, and some fixtures. During the renovation of the area designated for the bed and breakfast, some patches were left on the ceilings to showcase the original house decorations. All the interior doors, which are original, have been restored and decorated. After Domenico, the house was inhabited by his son Giustino and his wife Clorinda, who gave birth to my grandfather Serafino. In this house, on the ground floor, my grandfather had his law office. This house was the place of my childhood, with attic games, races on the terrace, big lunches, and stories from my grandmother, who lived here for a long time and filled the kitchen with unforgettable aromas. After many years of absence, I returned to the De Angelis house that welcomed and comforted me. When I decided to renovate a part of the house to open a bed and breakfast, I had long conversations with my mother, who told me everything she remembered about the house and our ancestors. I wanted to try to recreate that atmosphere with all the affection and gratitude I feel. Today, many customers tell me that the house transmits a true warmth and a sense of hospitality, and for me, this is a real success. When my children, who are now adults, come back in the evening and close the door, I recognize the sound it makes: it's the same as when I was a child.
