Area Seaside

Fiumicino is a charming coastal town with ancient origins. Thanks to the significant flow of goods and passengers through its airport, as well as the presence of well-equipped seaside resorts, it has become a thriving service center. The community of Fiumicino extends from the main city, which has a modern appearance, to the surrounding areas of Aranova, Fiumicino Airport, Focene, Fregene, Isola Sacra, Palidoro, Passo Oscuro, Testa di Lepre, and Torrimpietra. The municipality, characterized by its flat terrain, includes a vast portion of the Tyrrhenian coast and its immediate hinterland. The massive land reclamation efforts at the beginning of the 20th century transformed the marshy areas north and south of the capital into fertile lands easily cultivable by humans. Today, the territory is predominantly urbanized, with scattered cultivated plots here and there. One can also find a wide variety of natural environments, from the extensive estate of Maccarese to the protected wetlands of Macchiagrande - a refuge for rare plant species and home to the Focene lagoon, where one can observe the gray heron, the mallard, the marsh harrier, and the red kite during spring. Other noteworthy natural attractions include Lake Traiano and the extensive pine forest of Fregene, declared a national monument. The coast boasts wide sandy beaches gently sloping towards the sea. The city's coat of arms features a crenellated red tower, reminiscent of the Guelf style, against a blue background. The tower rests on the first of the three bands - two green and one blue - representing the countryside at its feet. An anchor and four golden wheat stalks are engraved on the structure.
