The Riviera dei Cedri gets its name from the famous cultivation of the cedar (Citrus medica, “var. Liscia diamante”), also known as the Cedar of Santa Maria del Cedro, due to its abundant production in this area. This ancient citrus fruit has roots that trace back to classical times and Jewish tradition. Among the towns that make up the Riviera, Santa Maria del Cedro stands out as the current center of production, along with Scalea, Orsomarso, Santa Domenica Talao, Buonvicino, Belvedere Marittimo, and Cetraro. Part of this region is included in the Pollino National Park. The coastline of the Riviera dei Cedri is among the most beautiful in Calabria, featuring a mix of cliffs and natural coves, interspersed with wide sandy beaches. Here, you can also find the only two Calabrian islands: Dino and Cirella, which, along with the Scoglio della Regina, define the protected area of the "Riviera dei Cedri" Regional Marine Park.
