The village that can be admired today was founded in the tenth century after Christ under the name of Aspra (a name maintained until 1947). Becoming a free commune in 1189, between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, Aspra became one of the most powerful communities in Sabina. The historic center of Casperia is an exceptional example of medieval architecture. Enclosed within the imposing walls erected in 1282, it can only be accessed through two ancient gates that lead to alleys and narrow streets, still exclusively pedestrian today, which develop in concentric circles, enveloping the entire hill.
