Area seaside
Le Castella is one of the most enchanting villages along the Calabrian Ionian coast, a place that blends nature, history, and maritime traditions. Overlooking the Protected Marine Area of Capo Rizzuto, it boasts turquoise waters and vibrant underwater life, ideal for diving and snorkeling. Golden beaches alternate with rugged cliffs, creating stunning vistas that change throughout the day.
The village's emblem is the Aragonese Fortress, built in the 15th century and accessible via a narrow strip of land. Its picturesque location extending into the sea has made it one of the most iconic images of Calabria, continuing to evoke the atmosphere of legends and ancient tales.
As you stroll through the village’s narrow streets, you'll find restaurants, trattorias, and local eateries where you can enjoy fresh seafood and traditional Calabrian dishes, all served with the warm hospitality of the locals. The village is lively with activities and sea excursions: boat trips, fishing outings, canoe tours, and dives that reveal the hidden treasures of the coastline.
Le Castella's strategic location makes it easy to reach many places of great interest. Just a few kilometers away is Capo Colonna, home to the Temple of Hera Lacinia, one of the most significant archaeological sites of Magna Graecia. Inland, you can visit Santa Severina, with its majestic medieval castle, and the Valli Cupe Park, known for its spectacular canyons, waterfalls, and rock-carved gorges. With a longer journey, you can reach the Sila National Park, Reggio Calabria with the Riace Bronzes, and the famous Tropea, queen of the Coast of the Gods.
Thus, Le Castella serves as an ideal starting point for those wishing to experience Calabria in all its facets: unspoiled sea, breathtaking natural landscapes, ancient historical landmarks, and a culinary culture that reflects the authentic spirit of this land.
