The history of Palazzo Buonaccorsi, which is part of the list of Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the Siena Superintendence, dates back to the 13th century. Like many other private buildings in the city, the Palace changed ownership over the centuries. The first written documents mentioning it date back to the 15th century when the palace was purchased by Michele da Pisa, a member of the Venerosi family, who added the nickname "Pesciolini" to his surname. One of his daughters, Apollonia, inherited much of his wealth and married the son of Francesco Brogi, the owner of another tower house in Via San Matteo (now Torre Pesciolini). Their second son changed his surname from Brogi to Pesciolini and inherited the Tower and the Palace. In the 17th century, a member of the Vichi family from Orvieto purchased the Palace, which then became the residence of the Boldrinis until 1927 when it was bought by Giuseppe Vichi, the municipal engineer of the city. In 1990, Pietro Boldrini and his wife decided to transform the second floor of the Palace into a tourist residence. Today, their son Pierluigi, together with his wife, continues the family tradition and opens the ancient doors of this historic residence to offer their guests a pleasant stay under the medieval towers of San Gimignano.
San Gimignano is a hilltop city situated at 334 meters above sea level, with its medieval towers dominating the Val d'Elsa. The city's Etruscan origins date back to the 10th century and it began to flourish during the Middle Ages thanks to the Via Francigena. During the 13th century, San Gimignano reached its peak of splendor, enriched by works of art present in churches, palaces and monasteries. The towers, symbols of the political power of the aristocratic class, were originally 72, but only 14 remain today. After the terrible plague of 1348 and its submission to Florence, the city experienced a decline. However, in recent years, San Gimignano has regained its fortunes thanks to the beauty of the city and its artistic heritage. In 1990, it was included on UNESCO's list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites. The city is surrounded by a beautiful countryside with vineyards and olive groves typical of Tuscany. The most renowned local products are the Vernaccia di San Gimignano wine and saffron, which has a tradition dating back to the medieval period.
