The Bed and Breakfast In the Castle is located within the ancient walls of Fontignano Castle. It is situated 20 km from Perugia, in the place where, in 1523, the famous painter Pietro Vannucci, known as il Perugino (born in Città della Pieve), lost his life, leaving his last work, The Nativity, unfinished. It was located above the entrance arch to the tribune of the Confraternity of the Annunciation of Fontignano and is now exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The Bed and Breakfast offers two comfortable double rooms with private bathrooms. Each guest will receive a set of keys to be completely independent during their stay, with no time limits. The rooms are adequately heated according to the season and there are no additional costs.

The tranquility and family atmosphere that can be felt in this sweet hilly landscape are the same as those found in the paintings of the famous painter Pietro Vannucci, il Perugino, who was Raphael's teacher. His tomb is located in the Church of the Annunciation, a short distance from our property, where you can admire a fresco depicting the Virgin with Child. This painting exhibits the typical features of Perugino's works: delicate features, a gaze turned elsewhere, and a background of Umbrian hills. Perugino died of the plague and, to avoid contagion, he was buried far from the inhabited center. Later, his remains were brought back to the village, but his tomb was lost because, not being religious, no cross or religious symbol was placed on it. In the early twentieth century, during a restoration of the Church of the Annunciation, bones were found in the surrounding area. Chemical analysis and comparison with Perugino's physical descriptions confirmed to scholars that they belonged to the deceased artist. In 1940, a new marble tomb was made, surmounted by a tombstone.
