My name is Mauro and I brought Medoacvs to life five years ago. This house had been closed for many years, but thanks to my dedication, it has gradually come back to life.
My goal is to make guests feel at home when they choose to stay here. Even though I have limited time to travel, I love exploring new places. I also adore flowers, greenery, and I invest a lot of time in taking care of the garden and park surrounding the house.
Just a short walk from our house, in the town of Stra, stands the majestic Villa Pisani. This 18th-century architectural masterpiece was commissioned by Alvise Pisani, a member of the distinguished Venetian family and Doge of the Republic of Venice from 1735. The villa, with its 114 luxuriously decorated rooms featuring frescoes, including the renowned "Glory of the Pisani Family" by Tiepolo in the Ballroom, has hosted doges, kings, and emperors. Following the fall of the Republic of Venice and due to substantial debts, the Pisani family had to sell the property to Napoleon, who later gifted it to Eugenio di Beauharnais. With the unification of Italy, the villa became state property and today houses the National Museum. The adjoining park, famous for its intricate hedge maze, the Orangerie, and the Tropical Greenhouses, adds charm to the estate. Villa Pisani is easily accessible on foot in about 10 minutes from our B&B, along a pleasant path that runs alongside the Brenta River.
Also in Stra, is the Villa Foscarini-Rossi, another splendid example of 18th-century architecture. Commissioned by the Foscarini family and adorned by renowned architects, painters, and sculptors, it now houses the Rossimoda Footwear Museum.
Along the Riviera del Brenta, one can discover numerous other 18th-century villas, built by Venetian noble families to spend their summers in grand style. Among these, Villa Widmann Rezzonico Foscari in Mira is a true architectural gem, with a central frescoed hall surrounded by a balcony from which music once echoed during parties. The Murano glass chandeliers are particularly noteworthy.
Continuing towards Venice, in the town of Malcontenta, stands Villa Foscari, known as La Malcontenta. Designed by Andrea Palladio in 1559 for Alvise and Nicolò Foscari, this villa stands out for its majestic entrance facing the Brenta and its richly decorated interiors with mythological frescoes.
Finally, along the Brenta, there are other 18th-century patrician villas, each with its own unique history and beauty, including Villa Allegri von Ghega, Villa Gradenigo, Palazzo Moro, Villa Priuli, Villa Querini Stampalia, and many more in Mira; Villa Badoer-Fattoretto, Villa Soranzo, and others in Dolo; and Villa Recanati-Zucconi, Villa Barbarigo-Fontana, and others in Fiesso d'Artico, in addition to the aforementioned Villa Pisani and Villa Foscarini Rossi in Stra. These residences reflect the wealth and prestige of the 18th-century Venetian families, offering visitors today a fascinating dive into history and art.
