The Agriturismo Locanda del Papa is situated in the heart of the ancient Podesteria of Carpena, nestled in the tranquility of the hills overlooking the Cinque Terre. Just a short distance from the Foce pass, the view opens up to La Spezia and the enchanting Gulf of Poets, bordered by Lerici and Portovenere. Its strategic location, only 4 km from the train station, makes the train the perfect option for quickly reaching the Cinque Terre, including Riomaggiore and the Via dell'Amore.
The building, a historic farmhouse from the 1600s, underwent a complete renovation in 2005 and now spans a ten-hectare estate of land and woods, featuring terraced fields supported by centuries-old dry stone walls, a testament to the hard work of past generations. Surrounded by chestnut forests, the agriturismo provides peace and a connection to nature while remaining close to the coastal attractions. The property is fully fenced and has a parking area with gated access.
The rooms are decorated in a rustic style, featuring original wooden beams and terracotta floors, and come equipped with private bathrooms, central heating, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Some rooms also include a wood-burning stove with a visible fire. From the terrace, where a hearty breakfast is served during the warmer months, guests can enjoy a beautiful view of the terraced fields and surrounding woods.
The Locanda offers ten sleeping accommodations and is pet-friendly. It serves as an ideal starting point for hiking enthusiasts, with the Cinque Terre trail No. 1 beginning right on the property.
We offer a hearty breakfast featuring local specialties, including the traditional Ligurian focaccia and our homemade jams. Over the years, to cater to the tastes of our guests from around the globe, we have expanded our selection to include cold cuts, cheeses, eggs, fresh fruit, and yogurt.
Of course, beverages such as tea, coffee, herbal infusions, fruit juices, and milk (including chocolate milk) are also available to enhance your morning experience.

The Agriturismo Locanda del Papa, run by Davide, Roberta, and Francesco, offers not only a warm welcome but also a captivating history steeped in tradition. The nickname "dei Papa," linked to the family for generations, has origins that go back in time, adding to the charm of this place.
It is said that in the past, those traveling along the ancient Via Aurelia – the only route to Genoa – would pass through the areas where the family has always resided. Among these travelers, one day, a Pope with his entourage stopped, possibly on his way to Genoa or Avignon. They halted at a natural spring owned by the family to refill their water supplies and refresh their horses. This spring still exists today, admired by cyclists tackling the climbs of Foce, and from that moment on, the family became known as the "family dei Papa."
This tale, handed down through generations, adds a touch of magic and authenticity to Agriturismo Locanda del Papa, making it not just a place to stay but a bridge between the past and the present, where every guest is invited to uncover a piece of history.
If you wish to discover the wonders of the Cinque Terre, you’re in the right place! Our facility is located just 6 km from the train station, and taking the train is the most convenient way to reach the Cinque Terre, with only a 10-minute ride to Riomaggiore and the famous Via dell'Amore. During the summer season, you can also embark on a boat trip, departing 7 km from us, to explore all the picturesque villages of the Gulf of Poets and the Cinque Terre.
For hiking enthusiasts, the Cinque Terre Trail No. 1 starts right from our home. The bus stop for the town and the train station is only 300 meters away. If you prefer to drive, you will be just 15 km from Monterosso and a 20-minute drive to Riomaggiore.
Don’t forget to visit La Spezia, known for its Naval Museum and the Lia Museum, both within a short distance. Portovenere, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is 16 km away, while Lerici, with its charming bay and "Blue Flag" beaches, is only 14 km from here. Lastly, make sure to check out Tellaro, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, located 4 km from Lerici. This enchanting walled village from the 1300s, perched on a cliff, is accessible only by foot (500 meters from the parking area). Sarzana, referred to as the "lost city," is situated 15 km away. And this is just the beginning!
