Formia is located in the center of the Gulf of Gaeta, facing south, surrounded by the Aurunci mountains that form a semicircle from NW to NE (with a maximum height of Monte Petrella at 1535m). The uniqueness of its mild climate is due to its position between the sea and the limestone mountains immediately behind the coast. The mountains provide a protective barrier against cold northern winds, so the city of Formia has a milder climate compared to the surrounding areas.
