Each room is carefully furnished and different from the others; all have independent external entrances to ensure guests maximum freedom of movement. The ensuite bathroom with shower is equipped with a hairdryer and single-use soaps. A small porch equipped with sofas and a small table, outside each room, ensures guests a private space to relax.
The beautiful garden that surrounds the house is characterized by flowers and plants typical of the Mediterranean scrubland. Centuries-old carob and oak trees provide coolness to the house with their large foliage in the warmer months. Brooms, jasmine, myrtle bushes, and rosemary spread their scents in the air while daisies, geraniums, and zinnias with their explosion of colors are a pleasure for the eyes. There are also orange, lemon, and mandarin trees, as well as pear and fig trees whose fruits are used to make delicious jams and genuine desserts or as fresh fruit to enhance guests' breakfast.
In the morning, on the stunning terrace overlooking the sea, we will delight you with a rich and delicious breakfast made with fresh and high-quality products. You can enjoy homemade pastries and jams, as well as seasonal delights from our own production, such as figs, mulberries, persimmons, pears, and much more. Starting the day with this unique culinary experience will be a true pleasure for you.
Hello, my name is Nadia, I am 54 years old and I have a 18-year-old son. Together with my lively and energetic 80-year-old mother, Lidia, I manage our small B&B. I love Maratea and the whole of Basilicata, and after a short period of being away, I have decided to come back to stay.
I try to convey this passion and deep connection with my land to my guests, welcoming them with warmth and simplicity and showing them the most authentic and less touristy part of our territory, thanks to the help of my brother-in-law Pompeo, a geologist and great connoisseur not only of our areas but also of the surrounding ones (he himself has created the maps and guides that we offer for free to our guests).

The B&B La Casa del Gelso is located in the peaceful town of Acquafredda di Maratea, just a few kilometers from the historic center. Maratea, with its thirty kilometers of splendid coastline, is the only part of Basilicata that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea. A sea with clear waters, coves with pebble beaches, steep slopes covered with Mediterranean vegetation, the quality of hospitality and the innate sense of hospitality of its inhabitants make Maratea an increasingly popular and appreciated destination for travelers from all over the world.
The Maratea territory is divided between coastal and mountainous hamlets, each of which has its own identity often very different from the others. Acquafredda is the northernmost hamlet and owes its name to the natural source of fresh and cold water that still flows on one of its beaches: "Spiaggia Porticello". Located in a splendid natural corner, this small beach overlooks a small bay, hence the name by which it is known. It is historically known as the beach where the patriot Costabile Carducci landed on 4/07/1848.
On the cliff behind the beach is the Grotta del Dragone, a large natural cavity that during the rainy season gives rise to a magnificent spectacle.
Guests of the B&B La Casa del Gelso can reach the Porticello beach in just a few minutes on foot, through a staircase.
Easily accessible by car in just 5 minutes are the beaches of Luppa and Anginarra, which are two of the largest in the area, separated from each other by a lush chain of rocks.
