Sant'Angelo in Formis is the only neighborhood in Capua (in the province of Caserta), located approximately 4 km northwest of the city center, at the foot of Mount Tifata (602 m above sea level).
It is renowned for its Byzantine-style Benedictine basilica, which stands in the oldest part of the village.
During Roman times, there was a temple dedicated to Diana Tifatina (named after the mountain), some artifacts of which are preserved in the Campano Museum of Capua. In the 10th century AD, a first church was built on the remains of the temple, preserving parts of the foundations and the floor, as well as reusing restored Roman columns to divide the aisles.
