The Crete Senesi, located southeast of Siena, are a unique and admired landscape that has been photographed by many. Characterized by rounded hills and fields of wheat and pastures that transform with the seasons, this environment offers a breathtaking view. Although sometimes described as "lunar," in spring the fields explode with green while in autumn the clay soil reflects shades of purple. As a land of agriculture, the Crete are renowned for wheat, pecorino cheese, and the PDO "Terre di Siena" olive oil, as well as for white truffles. The region is predominantly built with clay bricks, from farms to monuments such as the Monte Oliveto Abbey and the Grancia di Cuna. Rapolano is known for its thermal baths and travertine, while Asciano, the capital, hosts artistic treasures like Palazzo Corboli.
