Area

Chia, a coastal village in the municipality of Domus de Maria, is located along the scenic road of the southwestern coast of Sardinia, which can be reached from Cagliari by following the SS 195. The ancient village of Chia was situated in a small inlet where one of the numerous coastal towers built in the 17th century by the Spanish Crown to defend against pirate attacks now stands. Among the ruins discovered after a storm surge, it is possible to find the remains of a Punic tophet and the ancient road that connected it to the important city of Nora. Today, Chia is a destination for hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts who can travel along the dirt road parallel to the old path, enjoying particularly enchanting coastal views. From the tower, which dominates the coast, one can access a long stretch of sand interspersed with small inlets framed by dense vegetation and bathed in a sparkling emerald sea. It is a natural spectacle that leaves a lasting impression in the heart of every visitor. Thanks to the shallow waters, all the beaches along the coast of Chia are particularly appreciated by families with children and enthusiasts of underwater fishing and diving. Often swept by the Mistral wind, Chia is also an ideal destination for surfers who can showcase their spectacular acrobatics. These beaches are well-equipped with tourist services, accessible to people with disabilities, and offer ample parking facilities.
