The village of Cerro, in the municipality of Laveno Mombello, is a little-known gem of Lake Maggiore, with a wide sandy beach, a small harbor, a ceramic museum, cobbled streets, and flower-filled courtyards.
The house is located in an ancient lakeside courtyard in the historic center of the village, in a pedestrian area where children still play ball in the street and ride bicycles and skates. Everyone knows each other and you will be warmly welcomed by the locals.
The village is very small and can be fully explored on foot.
In Cerro, there are 2 sailing clubs that organize courses (it is also possible to rent sailboats), a rowing club, a grocery store, a clothing store, 3 bars (one seasonal), 3 restaurants, a pizzeria, an artisanal ice cream shop, a tobacco shop/newsstand, a hairdresser, and a church. Everything is within 200 meters.
The nearest beach to the house is rocky, with a pier for boat docking, and is mainly frequented by locals. The larger beach, about 200 meters from the house, is sandy and supervised by a lifeguard in August, but with free access.
The International Museum of Ceramic Design (MIDEC), at the entrance of the village, has a permanent collection and organizes temporary exhibitions, ceramic courses, and workshops for children. In its courtyard, during the summer, there is an open-air cinema, concerts, and theater performances.
Occasionally, during spring or summer weekends, there are craft markets or food producers, as well as the gastronomic stand of the Canottieri Cerro with lake fish dishes.
In the hamlet of Ceresolo, less than 1km away, there is the beautiful Romanesque church of San Defendente.
