My name is Lauro and I have been living here with my family in this splendid countryside house since the '90s. During the lockdown period, we decided to restore a part of the farmhouse that had been abandoned for years, turning it into a cozy family-run B&B. Our goal is to introduce the wonders of this picturesque area of Tuscany, away from the usual tourist destinations. Personally, I actively contributed to the restoration and the creation of interior furnishings that reflect Tuscan traditions in every little detail.
A stay at the B&B Castagna Dulcis will lead you to discover another Tuscany, different, with a unique flavor and landscape. We are located in the Amiata area, an atypical and almost unknown Tuscany. Here you will find a wilder and more authentic atmosphere, immersed between the provinces of Grosseto and Siena, surrounded by beech, chestnut, and fir forests.
The B&B Castagna Dulcis is located near Abbadia San Salvatore, on the Sienese side. The town center can be reached in a few minutes by car or, if you prefer, on foot. You cannot miss a visit to the Monastery and its crypt, as well as the Mining Museum, an important historical landmark of this area of Amiata. From Abbadia, the enchanting area of beech and chestnut forests begins. There are numerous well-marked and visible trails that allow everyone, experts and beginners alike, to walk safely and peacefully, both on foot and by bike. You cannot miss a visit to the "peak" of Amiata, which rises to 1738 meters in altitude with its majestic monumental cross standing 22 meters high.
Amiata is a solitary place, far from confusion, ideal for enjoying leisurely days and picnics in the meadows, or for thrilling descents on ski slopes during winter. Do not forget autumn, with its colors and its fruits, including mushrooms and chestnuts to taste in local restaurants or during the numerous seasonal festivals. We offer the so-called tourism of silence, which allows walks, excursions, and trekking in peaceful places. Here light pollution is minimal and at night you can admire the stars particularly clearly.
The B&B Castagna Dulcis is also the ideal starting point for visiting the charming villages of the Amiata - Val d'Orcia area, such as Vivo d'Orcia (only 8 km away), for an excursion to the sources of Ermicciolo, Radicofani (17 km away), famous for its fortress overlooking the Val d'Orcia and dating back to the period before 1000, and Bagni San Filippo (10.1 km away), renowned for its natural hot springs of Fosso Bianco.
