La Casina Montana, a charming 19th-century farmhouse, is located in Corigliano d'Otranto, an enchanting village in the Salento region of Puglia, Italy.
Recently transformed into a cozy Bed & Breakfast, it offers three independent rooms, equipped with all comforts, surrounded by a beautiful well-kept garden, spread over 20,000 square meters, among ancient olive trees and wheat fields. The rooms are located in front of the main house, where Leo and Lina's family resides and warmly welcomes you to serve delicious breakfasts, accompanied by a typical family atmosphere.
The B&B Casina Montana is located just 2 kilometers from the meeting point of Maglie, Otranto, Gallipoli, and Lecce, allowing you to quickly reach both the Adriatic and Ionian seas, to enjoy the crystal-clear waters and endless white beaches, the fascinating Baroque architecture of Lecce, and the gastronomic routes of the Salento, accompanied by the captivating rhythms of the Taranta dance.
It is also an ideal starting point to visit Ostuni, Alberobello, Castellana Grotte, and Matera, with the possibility of returning in the evening and enjoying the total relaxation of the surrounding countryside.
Finally, for sports enthusiasts, in the immediate vicinity, there is a sports center with tennis courts, swimming pools, skating, and the opportunity to practice ultralight flying.
We offer a delightful selection of homemade sweets and cookies, as well as jams made with love using the fruit from our garden: plums, oranges, figs, strawberries, peaches, and much more. You can also enjoy fresh seasonal fruit, ricotta, and yogurt from the nearby Masseria Padulano. To accompany it all, you will find local bread, puccette, focaccia, and friselle. Fresh orange juice, honey from our own production, dried figs, omelettes, and soft-boiled eggs will not be missing.
The buffet breakfast will be served under the charming portico of the main house, enjoying the beautiful day. During the winter, you can enjoy it in the warm and cozy family living room instead.
In a distant past, a young man, deeply in love with his beloved, decided to build a small house for her.
Despite his poverty, he managed to acquire a small plot of land with a modest room made of red stones and straw roofs.. and there he brought his Beloved.
The bold and courageous young man gradually managed to buy another piece of land, joining it with the previous one.
He was happy and satisfied, but not yet fulfilled!
One day, a fire destroyed his little shelter, but he did not lose courage.
He worked hard and with his determination, he rebuilt that small room which over time transformed into a "Casina" with seven rooms, one for each child born every year. Each room had its own fireplace, around which the whole family gathered to warm up during the long winter evenings, accompanied by stories and tales.
During those times, his immense passion for bees (so much so that he was nicknamed the "doctor of bees") led him to become a respected beekeeper among the only three in all of Puglia. Thanks to this, Casina Montana became known as the "Honey Farm".
Later, times changed and everything transformed!
It became a farm with a vast tobacco cultivation, until even that came to an end.
So, one not too distant day, the last heirs, evoking the memories of their ancestors and thanks to their thirty years of experience in the hospitality industry, decided to revive the things of the past by giving life to the current B&B Casina Montana.
Casina "Montana", as marked on historical maps, owes its name to its particularly elevated position compared to the rest of the territory and thanks to this, it enjoys a cool freshness during the hot and sultry summer days.
The dry stone Masseria is an ancient building dating back to the early 1900s, which has been in our family for over 100 years. In the past, it was known for honey production, but today it has become a welcoming agritourism farm immersed in the tranquility of the countryside, where you can enjoy delicious handmade breakfasts with zero-kilometer products. Its central location in Salento will allow you to easily visit both the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic, reachable in just 20-40 minutes by car. Furthermore, our Bed and Breakfast is only 2 km away from Maglie, an important shopping center, and 6 km away from Corigliano d'Otranto, a charming village in the hinterland of the Greek Salento, where you can still hear the local dialect of our grandparents. In the surrounding area, we recommend visiting the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria in Galatina, the Dolmens and Menhirs of Giurdignano, the ancient Hypogeum Olive Mill of Gallipoli, and just 3 km away, you can discover the Convent of the Augustinians in Melpignano, famous for its renowned Concertone della Taranta Pizzicata. Don't forget to make a stop in Scorrano, just 5 km from here, known for its spectacular Santa Domenica illuminations.
