The city of Milan is equipped with a fairly efficient public transport network.
The network consists of the Metro, trams, buses, and trolleybuses, managed by ATM - Azienda Trasporti Milanesi.
With public transportation, it is easy and quick to reach all points of interest in the city.
The Subway "Metro"
Milan
is served by 5 metro lines: M1 Red, M2 Green, M3 Yellow, M4 Blue, and
M5 Lilac, which run through the city in all directions and intersect the
main railway stations.
In addition to the metro lines, the city is crossed by suburban railway
lines marked with the letter "S", also called "Passante Ferroviario".
These lines connect the city with the Milan hinterland and can be used
within the city with the same ticket used for the metro and trams.
The Milan metro operates every day from 6:00 am to 12:30 am.
Trams, buses, and trolleybuses
Tram:
In
Milan, there is a network of 18 tram lines that run through the city
until after midnight: it is the transportation with the longest
operating hours, indeed active from 04:30 am until 02:00 am.
Autobus:
There are over 80 bus lines that run all day and cover the entire territory of Milan and the neighboring municipalities.
Trolleybuses:
There
are 4 trolleybus lines: line 90 (Clockwise Circular) and line 91
(Counterclockwise Circular), which follow a route that almost completely
overlaps with what is called the "Outer Ring Road", and lines 92 and
93.
The Night Network
There
is a night bus network in Milan that allows people to move throughout
the city even when the subway is closed. Buses in the night network run
on the same lines as the regular network and are marked with the letter
"N."
In addition to the N lines, the Neighborhood Radiobus is also
available, every night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., a system of bus lines
that extensively serve numerous neighborhoods in Milan. Radiobuses are
identified by the letter Q.
