To visit in Milan: Gallery Vittorio Emanuele II

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is an iconic structure in Milan, serving as an elegant covered pedestrian connection between Piazza Duomo and Piazza della Scala.

Known as "Milan's Drawing Room, " this shopping arcade was erected in the second half of the 19th century, soon becoming the favorite meeting place of Milanese bourgeoisie. Built in a neo-Renaissance style, it is a fine example of European iron architecture and a prototype of 19th-century shopping arcades. Commonly referred to as "the Galleria" by locals, it is considered one of the world's first shopping malls.

Inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, there are renowned fashion stores such as Prada, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton, as well as local craft shops. Its culinary offering includes high-quality restaurants and historic establishments, such as the famous Caffè Biffi founded in 1867.

One of the most striking features of the gallery is the roof of the central vault, adorned with a splendid mosaic depicting the continents of Asia, Africa, Europe, and America.

A fascinating curiosity is the mosaic on the floor of the central octagon, depicting the coat of arms of the House of Savoy with a bull. According to tradition, spinning on the bull with the right foot and closed eyes brings good luck. And there is an even more suggestive belief: if you do it at midnight on December 31st, you will be enveloped in luck for the whole year!
