Why see dolphins in Golfo Aranci
Golfo Aranci is known internationally for the resident community of dolphins living in the waters just off the village. They are bottlenose dolphins, and they have frequented this stretch of sea for years.
The area between Capo Figari and the island of Figarolo is also a Site of Community Importance, a protected area recognised for its natural value. White limestone cliffs, transparent seabeds and Mediterranean scrub frame the tour, even on the days when the dolphins decide not to show up.
Where the kayak tours start
Most tours start from Baracconi beach, along the dirt road leading to Cala Moresca. It's just a few minutes' drive from the centre of Golfo Aranci.
The route: Cala Moresca, Figarolo and the dolphin bay
The classic route, with small variations between operators, includes three stops:
- Cala Moresca, one of the most beautiful bays in Golfo Aranci, seen from the water, often with a stop for snorkelling.
- Figarolo island, uninhabited except for its mouflon (wild sheep), where many tours stop for breakfast or an aperitivo on the beach.
- The fish farm in the bay, where the dolphins most often gather to feed and where the chances of a sighting are highest.
Guided tours usually last between two and a half and three hours, including the initial briefing and stops.
Sunrise, morning or sunset: when to go
Many operators offer several time slots:
- At sunrise: the sea is almost always flat, the light is magical and there's hardly anyone around. Ideal for couples and photography lovers. Often includes breakfast on Figarolo.
- In the morning or afternoon: convenient for families, with the sun already high and a swim at Cala Moresca at its best.
- At sunset: warm light on the cliffs of Capo Figari, often with an aperitivo included. Some tours use transparent kayaks, so you can see the seabed as you paddle.
Is it suitable for beginners and children?
Yes. The tours are easy and designed for people who have never been in a kayak. They use wide, very stable sit-on-top double kayaks, and before setting off the guide explains how to paddle properly. Life jackets, paddles and all equipment are provided.

The dolphins of Golfo Aranci are wild animals, not an attraction. A few simple rules make the encounter better for everyone:
- Never feed the dolphins: it's forbidden and harmful to them.
- Keep your distance and don't chase them: if they're curious, they'll come to you.
- Avoid sudden movements and loud noises.
