La Fornace di Francesca

Apartment in Certaldo in the city center

Our property

In the heart of the medieval village of Certaldo Alto, along the charming Via Giovanni Boccaccio, La Fornace di Francesca welcomes guests to a recently renovated three-room apartment, which was once the site of the old kiln of the town. The spaces, now elegant and functional, still retain the historical essence of the place, visible in the architectural details and the marks of time imprinted on the walls, silent witnesses to the village's artisan past. The house, featuring a private entrance, opens up to a bright living area equipped with a fully furnished kitchen, dining table, and sofa. The two bedrooms provide accommodation suitable for families or small groups: one with a double bed that has direct access to the outdoor terrace, and a second room with a bunk bed and a pull-out bed. The modern and recently updated bathroom completes the interior spaces. Outside, the private terrace is a secluded area for relaxation and outdoor dining, enhanced by a small covered laundry area for the exclusive use of guests. Staying here means immersing oneself in the authentic atmosphere of a lively and inhabited village, away from the more crowded tourist routes, yet perfectly connected by the funicular that descends to the Certaldo train station, from where Florence and Siena can be reached without a car. For those arriving by car, convenient parking is available upon request just a few meters from the walls. Certaldo proves to be an excellent starting point for exploring the wonders of Valdelsa and the more authentic Tuscany: San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Montelupo, Vinci, Volterra, Pisa, Arezzo, and many other artistic and cultural destinations are easily accessible for day trips. A stay here combines the charm of history with contemporary comfort, offering a genuinely Tuscan experience.

You will be hosted by Francesca

I grew up in the alleys of Certaldo Alto, where my parents moved from Sicily when I was still a child. This village, with its ancient stones and the peaceful rhythm of country life, has become my home, the place where I started my family and where I still live today, now in the surrounding countryside, dedicating myself alongside my husband and children to our organic farm. With a lot of dedication and love, we have built a simple yet fulfilling life, connected to nature and its bounty, surrounded by the affection of our grandchildren. The apartment that now welcomes travelers was my parents’ home for many years. Every corner holds a precious memory for me. Renovating it was an act of love, a way to honor them and to continue the serene and welcoming atmosphere that has always characterized those walls. I am certain that if they could see it today, they would be delighted. Assisting me in welcoming guests is my daughter Erica, who shares my passion for wholesome cooking, local produce, and the little beautiful things in life. Together, we strive to make every guest feel at home, offering not just a well-maintained accommodation but also the warmth of genuine hospitality, in a place where time seems to pass more slowly and where each stay can become a special memory.

Area city center

Certaldo Alto, where the apartment is located, is a medieval village of historical importance, home to the Vicariate of the historic Florentine Valdelsa. Hometown of Giovanni Boccaccio, you can visit his residence, now a city museum, as well as the Palazzo Pretorio, the ancient churches, the ancient gates to the inner walls of the ancient castle, and the internal and external streets, which offer beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside, all the way to the medieval towers of famous San Gimignano, just a few kilometers away. The hilltop village is connected to the modern town by pedestrian streets, narrow roads, and a charming funicular that reaches the main square of the modern area. Day trips to nearby Monteriggioni, Siena, Florence, Pisa, and Volterra are possible by car or train.
